About Us

Traveling through History since 2003

Since its inception in 2003, **About Us** has been a journey through the rich tapestry of American history, folklore, and travel. More than just a website, it’s a digital portal meticulously crafted to transport visitors to bygone eras, uncover forgotten tales, and explore the diverse landscapes that shaped the nation. From the rugged trails of the Wild West to the bustling streets of early 20th-century cities, **About Us** offers a comprehensive and engaging exploration of America’s past.

Who We Are

Like many ventures, **About Us** began as a passion project, a labor of love fueled by a deep appreciation for history and a desire to share it with the world. At the heart of this endeavor is Owner-Editor Kathy Weiser-Alexander, whose lifelong fascination with history, travel, writing, and creative expression served as the catalyst for its creation. In 2002, this passion materialized as a small personal webpage called *High Country Legends*. As the project grew, the ideas and opportunities expanded, and soon, a small business she started in 1998, called the Rocky Mountain General Store, was merged with the new website. This business, which was also more of a hobby, was the sales outlet for her creative endeavors.

Kathy’s background is a blend of creative and practical skills. Holding a degree in Business Administration, she possesses a solid foundation in business principles. Supplementing this is her artistic talent in drawing, painting, and other artsy-craftsy stuff. Supplementing this is her artistic talent. Further solidifying her expertise, Kathy brings over two decades of corporate experience to the table, encompassing business and people management, customer service, technology, and consulting.

The evolution of **About Us** took a significant turn in 2003 when Kathy met David Alexander in Kansas City, though both are native Texans. Dave’s extensive knowledge of the radio broadcasting industry, coupled with his technical expertise, proved invaluable. In 1999, Dave left the airwaves to join a company that designed, managed, and supported software for radio stations, which Google eventually purchased in 2006. His division was sold off in the fall of 2009, at which time he joined **About Us** full time. From the beginning, Dave contributed advice, and his technical knowledge and became a primary travel partner.

Kathy’s dedication to preserving and sharing American history has led to numerous publications. Her first book, *Great American Bars and Saloons*, was published in 2006, offering a glimpse into the social and cultural significance of these historic establishments. She followed this with significant contributions to *Greetings from Route 66* in 2010, collaborating with other renowned Route 66 authors to capture the essence of this iconic highway. Under the “**About Us**” name, she has also authored *Old West Lawmen* (2012), *Lynching’s, Hanging’s & Vigilante Groups* (2014), and *Frontier Slang, Lingo & Phrases* (2015), delving into specific aspects of the American West.

The expertise and passion behind **About Us** have garnered recognition beyond the online world. In 2014, Kathy was featured on the Investigation Discovery (ID) channel’s “Evil Kin,” in an episode focusing on the infamous Bloody Benders. That same year, both Kathy and Dave participated in *Ghost Towns: America’s Lost World*, a comprehensive two-disc DVD documentary released by Mill Creek Entertainment. In 2015, Kathy appeared on the American Heroes Channel in two episodes of “Gunslingers,” discussing the lives and legends of Bat Masterson and Bill Doolin. She continued her television appearances in 2016 on the AHC series “American Lawmen,” portraying Dallas Stoudenmire: The Hero of El Paso. Furthermore, in 2018, Mill Creek Entertainment utilized unaired footage from a 2014 interview to create a new documentary, *Ghosts in Ghost Towns: Haunting the Wild West*, available on Amazon. In March of 2019, Kathy appeared in “True First,” Season 1: Episode 6 – “Bass Reeves” on UMC (Urban Movie Channel).

Although **About Us** originated in the Kansas City area – Dave in Prairie Village, Kansas, and Kathy in Lenexa, Kansas – the business officially relocated to Warsaw, Missouri, in May 2010. This charming small town, nestled on the dam separating Truman Lake and the Lake of the Ozarks, provides a picturesque setting for the team’s historical pursuits. The town’s population of approximately 2,000 full-time residents doubles during the summer months as visitors flock to enjoy the scenic lakes.

The day-to-day operations of **About Us** are divided between Kathy and Dave, with each bringing their unique skills to the table. Kathy spearheads the writing, photography, and website design, ensuring the site remains visually appealing and informative. Dave, on the other hand, manages all technical aspects, shipping, marketing, and sales, ensuring the seamless functioning of the website and the fulfillment of customer orders. The Legends General Store and Legends PhotoShop, which showcases the stunning photographs captured during their travels and a vast collection of restored vintage images, contribute to the website’s sustainability and continued exploration of American history.

**About Us** is committed to upholding strong moral and ethical business values. They are proud of their work and are committed to providing their readers, advertisers, and customers with a continually updated site, great products, and superior customer service.
